The Vampire's Visit

Christine and her annoying ten-year-old brother Hal are on the trip of a lifetime — an all-expense-paid vacation to jolly ol' England with Christine's best friend Pepper and her family. Right away, the girls notice their unusual accommodations — an old manor strewn with garlic from every window and doorway ... except theirs. This omission results in the appearance of Simon, a fourteen year old vampire who wants their help. It appears that a maverick gang of bloodsuckers is contravening the vampire code of ethics. This group of marauders is attacking whomever they please and need to be stopped. Christine (also known as Salt) and Pepper are understandably reluctant to enter this vampire civil war but are forced to participate when Hal is abducted. An elderly vampire named Leonard helps return Hal to the girls and they learn that Leonard, their host, Peter Cubbinton-Smith, and Mr. Smith's neighbour Count Jagler are all intertwined in the supernatural feud. This book has broad appeal to boys and girls of all ages. The book is peppered with lots of humourous banter and laced with frequent puns, like "you suck". Hal is a practical joker and outgoing explorer and the girls match his sense of adventure by traveling London sewers by night and climbing out of high windows — Christine breaks her collarbone in the process, but it doesn't stop our trio from undercovering the truth and saving their new friends. The spunky characters and breezy tone make this a fun book to "sink your teeth into".
