ISBN 10: 1555704018

ISBN 13: 9781555704018

The Internet is one of the best tools ever devised to assist learners and teachers in and out of the classroom. But, many teachers and librarians don't use this excellent resource to its fullest extent because most are too busy to explore the countless sites on the Internet. This guide does the searching in advance for teachers and learners at all levels—from kindergarten through college. It is filled with useful Internet sites containing pre-made lesson plans, a wide variety of resources for independent learning and research, and thousands of other easily accessible resources on hundreds of different topics and subject areas. The guide includes a CD-ROM with bookmarks for all the sites recommended so that a user can simply insert the disk in a drive, open the Internet, click on a bookmark, and immediately go to the educational site selected.

Reviews

From School Library Journal
Anyone having trepidation about surfing the Web will find comfort in this splendid resource that describes more than 400 sites, organized by academic discipline. For example, the science section begins with a brief overview of the scope of the sites. "General Resources" is subdivided into agriculture, anatomy and physiology, botany, careers in sciences, etc. Moving to a more specific heading such as "Earth" and "Environmental Sciences," the field is narrowed into subjects such as atmosphere, geology, virtual earthquake, and more. Sites were selected for usefulness of content, practical value for time spent, and ease of access, as well as for stability and reliability. They are linked to other educational sites. Utilizing the accompanying CD-ROM provides a hot link to the Web site. The matrix found in the index icon on the disk provides an easy path to broad subject headings. Most sites have a suggested grade level. The index is extensive and can be utilized without the CD-ROM.
