It’s been a busy week at OLA, and if this blog post is arriving a little later than usual, there’s a good reason for that. Our team spent the past two days together for a staff retreat, taking time to reflect on the work that we’ve done so far this year and to map out our priorities for the months ahead. It’s always energizing to step back from the day-to-day tasks and think about how we can keep improving the work we do for Ontario’s library community.
Earlier in the week, the OLA Board met for their March meeting. They established the 2026 OLA Awards Committee, which will help guide and steward one of our most meaningful traditions – recognizing the contributions of library professionals and advocates across the province.
One topic that was also discussed was the unfortunate situation at Six Nations Public Library, where the library building has been closed while a structural assessment takes place. Our thoughts are with Feather and her team during this difficult time. We are connecting with them to better understand what support might be most helpful and how the broader library community can assist. We’ll share more information as it becomes available.
Looking ahead, we’ll launch meetups for our new Communities of Practice (COPs) this month. These COPs are designed to bring together people who share interests across sectors and roles within the library world.
If you haven’t joined one yet, this is a great time to take a look and sign up for a community that sparks your curiosity. Participation is free for all OLA members, and these spaces are meant to be informal, collaborative places where library people can connect, share ideas, and explore topics they care about with colleagues from across the province.
As always, thank you for being part of the OLA community!
See you next Tuesday!
