Charging out of March like a lion – is that the expression? Either way, it feels accurate. No gentle lamb exit over here, just a full-speed gallop into April!

Last week, I had the chance to spend time at U of T’s Faculty of Information (formerly known as the iSchool) for their career day, and it was such a great reminder of the energy and thoughtfulness coming into the profession. Melissa and I connected with students about OLA, reviewed resumes, and had some meaningful career conversations about where libraries are headed and how they can find their place. A huge thank you to the volunteers who joined us for this.

While on campus, I also visited Nadia Caidi’s “Communities and Values” course to talk about advocacy at OLA and what it really looks like to be an advocate for libraries in Ontario. Thanks to the students who brought incredible questions, curiosity, and a real willingness to engage with some of the more complex challenges facing the sector right now.

Speaking of advocacy, I had a wrap-up meeting for Freedom to Read Week to reflect on how this year’s campaign rolled out and to capture lessons learned as we look ahead to next year. Always a good exercise in both celebrating what worked and being reflective about where we can push further.

I also connected with leadership from the Book Club for Inmates organization to talk about their advocacy work and start planning for an upcoming podcast episode together. There is some really important work happening in that space, and I’m looking forward to sharing more of it with all of you soon.

The Partnership met virtually last week. These meetings are a great opportunity to connect with association colleagues from across the country, compare notes, and learn from each other’s approaches to the opportunities and challenges we’re all navigating.

And finally, closer to home, the Super Conference team met to land on the theme for Super Conference 2027. Stay tuned – more exciting details to come. Don’t tell Emily, but 302 days until we do it all again!

See you next Tuesday!
