Give to OLA
OLA is a charitable and non-profit organization (107798159RR0001) and, as such, looks to our supporters to assist us financially so we may achieve our mandates. You may give a general donation, which is open for OLA to put towards our programs, advocacy and needs, or you may choose to make a donation to one of our designated funds, which have a specific purpose.
Ways to Give
One-time Donation
Make a single, non-recurring donation to OLA. Any donation over $20 qualifies for a tax receipt.
Recurring Donations
A credit card or bank withdrawal can be set up as a recurring payment. Whether large or small; bi-weekly, monthly or quarterly; every dollar helps us to build and grow.
Payroll Deductions
Most organizations, such as municipalities, academia, and school boards, have options for withdrawals from your paycheque to be donated to charity. Simply tell them that you would like a donation to be removed from your cheque bi-weekly, and they will deduct this and transfer the funds to OLA. We will then provide a tax receipt for the year.
Planned Giving —
Legacy Gifts
When creating a will for the first time or updating an existing one, you can choose to make a lasting impact by making a donation to OLA. August is International Make a Will Month, highlighting the importance of having a will and ensuring it supports the causes you care about.
In Memorium & Celebration Gifts
Whether you wish to make a donation in the name of a loved one or have a birthday or special event celebrated, we can support a memorial or celebration donation. A card will be sent to the person who the gifts are in the name of.

Additional Information
Planning a legacy gift—whether through your will or by naming the Ontario Library Association as a beneficiary of insurance policies or registered investments—is a meaningful way to support your community for years to come. These planned gifts help ensure continued support for the Ontario Library Association, and they can be tailored to suit your financial situation and philanthropic goals. Whether you choose to leave a gift in your will or arrange one outside of it, your contribution can have a lasting and transformative impact.
When planning your gift, it’s important to properly identify the charity in your will. Use the full legal name of the organization—such as Ontario Library Association (Registration No. 107798159 RR 0001), 300 – 192 Spadina Ave, Toronto, Ontario M5T 2C2. Including the charity’s registration number ensures your donation reaches the intended recipient without confusion or delay.
There are several types of gifts you can consider. A legacy involves leaving a fixed amount of money or personal property to the Ontario Library Association. A residual gift, on the other hand, is a share (or the entirety) of what remains of your estate after other commitments and expenses (such as taxes, funeral expenses and debts) have been met. Both options are valuable and can be tailored to reflect your philanthropic goals.
In addition to financial gifts, some donors choose to give gifts in kind, such as real estate, stocks, or other valuable assets. These can be arranged through your will as well and may offer tax advantages for your estate.
Another meaningful way to give is by naming the Ontario Library Association as a beneficiary of a life insurance policy or through registered investments such as RRSPs, RRIFs, or TFSAs. These gifts can provide significant support to the Ontario Library Association’s long-term mission while potentially reducing the tax burden on your estate. This type of planned giving is easy to arrange, often requires minimal paperwork, and allows you to make a lasting impact without altering your current financial situation.
Before finalizing your plans, it’s a good idea to speak with the Ontario Library Association directly about your intentions. Discussing your gift in advance allows you to align it with the organization’s current needs or designate it to specific programs or initiatives that are especially meaningful to you. This helps ensure your legacy has the greatest possible impact. Keep in mind that if a gift is restricted to a specific program that is no longer active at the time the gift is received, the charity may be unable to accept it as intended. By having a conversation in advance, the Ontario Library Association can help you craft a gift that is both meaningful to you and practical for the future.
Consulting with a lawyer or estate planner can help ensure your wishes are clearly expressed and legally sound, while speaking with your accountant can help you address any tax implications and maximize the benefits of your gift.
