


OLA Election December 4 - 14, 2023
Elections are held when there are multiple nominations received for open vacancies.
There will be an OLA Election December 4th -14th for the following:
OLITA Councillor at Large (two 3 year term seats available) – meet the candidates
Councillor at Large (1 year term) – meet the candidates
Councillor At Large (3 year term) – meet the candidates
OLA Board – Member At Large (Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion voice and representation – 3 Year Term) – meet the candidates
OLA Board – Member At Large (General Member – 2 Year Term) – meet the candidates
Elections for the following divisions will not be held as either all nominations received were appointed to their positions, or no nominations were received: ABO-Franco, OHLIA, OSLA, OPLA and OLBA.
How to vote:
- Members must be an active OLA member and part of either OLITA or OCULA division. All active members are eligible to vote in the OLA Board election

Results of the OLA Election will be announced to OLA members in January 2024 when board and council terms begin.
What does it mean to volunteer on a Board or Council?
1. Involvement in positive change for libraries and professional practice.
2. Learn and participate in province-wide initiatives relating to various library sectors
3. Connect, collaborate, and network with colleagues around the province.
Open positions for OLA Board and Divisional Councils
OLA has a Board of Directors and 7 Divisional Councils. Presidents and Vice-Presidents of Divisional Councils also are also elected to the OLA Board of Directors for their final term as past president. The following positions will be up for election for 2024 starting terms. (More information on the Governance change is indicated below)

The Member at Large positions work closely with the OLA Board, assisting in the planning and action of the Association. The at Large Member priorities are selected by the Board at the time of the passing of the OLA Strategic Plan in areas of priority within that plan, and for the purpose of bringing specific voices to the table which may otherwise not be present through Divisional Council representation.

Elections are held when multiple candidates are nominated for one position. If there is only one nomination for a position, that position is acclaimed and an election is not required.
OLA Election will run December 4-14
Geographic member regions are used for OPLA, OLBA and OSLA. Please note, OSLA combines the northern regions into one council position and OLBA does not have a Metropolitan Toronto region councilor.

New for 2024 - Governance model
At the 2023 OLA Annual General Meeting, the membership approved the new OLA Board of Directors composition:
- President
- Vice-President
- Treasurer
- 3 members-at-large (NEW POSITIONS FOR 2024)
- Past President of each of the seven divisional councils.

What does this mean for 2024?
Candidates elected as Vice-President of a Division for 2024, will serve on the OLA Board in 2026 when they become Past-President of their division as follows:
2024: Council Vice President,
2025: Council President,
2026: Past-President of Council and OLA Board member.
