The Research and Continuing Education Fund
Background
The following motion was approved at the June 2016 OLA Board Meeting:
Motion to receive restricted charitable funds from CLA due to the dissolution and to be
disbursed in accordance with CRA rules and regulations.
OLA received The Research and Continuing Education fund upon dissolution of the
Canadian Library Association. The criteria for disbursement to eligible recipients was
reviewed in consultation with the Canadian Federation of Library Associations.
Description
At its Annual General Meeting in 2005, the Ontario Library Association established an endowed Award to honour Larry Moore on his twentieThis fund supports theoretical and applied research advancing the fields of library and
information science in their broadest context. One or more grants totaling up to $2,000
are awarded annual, when merited. The objectives of the grant are: th anniversary as Executive Director of the Ontario Library Association.
- To support theoretical and applied research in the field of library and information services.
- To encourage and support research undertaken by practitioners in the field of library and information services.
- To promote research in the field of library and information services by and/or about Canadians.
Criteria/Eligibility
Proposals for funding are judged on:
- Originality of important research;
- Appropriateness of proposed project to the goals and objectives of the award;
- Cost-effectiveness of research in terms of the expected influence and ramifications of the results (relevant for applied research only);
- Timeliness of the research (primarily relevant for applied research);
- Assurance of project management and control;
- Appropriateness of the proposed research method and design;
- Completeness of application;
- An explanation of how the funding will be used;
- Indication of other funding sources if award funding (maximum $2,000) is insufficient to complete the project.
Preference will be given to submissions from practitioners in the field of library and information services. This award is available to Canadian Citizens and permanent residents.

o Travel (such as for a site visit).
o Technical/Equipment.
o Design.
o Meeting/Administrative.
o Other. - Applications will be accepted on an ongoing basis.
Selection Process
- Eligible proposals will be assessed according to the set criteria and based on a rubric.
- An OLA committee with representation from CFLA-FCAB will be struck upon receipt of an application to determine disbursement, review applicants, select recipients, and provide a report to the OLA Board.
