I’m back! 

After a couple of weeks away, I’ve returned to a very full inbox, a lot of energy across the team, and that familiar feeling of jumping back into the rhythm of things at OLA. It’s always nice to step away and remove Slack from my phone for a few weeks. Demonstrating boundaries!  

One of the first things on my list was a conversation with MLA about the recent cuts to library services in federal correctional institutions. While this is federal work and slightly outside OLA’s primary provincial focus, it’s an issue that touches on core library values. I’m interested in hearing from members who may want to be part of this conversation as it evolves. If this is something you care about or have expertise in, I’d love to connect. 

Back on the home front, we had two really strong ONLibChats last week. These spaces continue to be a great way for members to come together, share what they’re seeing on the ground, and learn from each other across sectors. Last week’s popular “So You’re Finished School, Now What?” chat focused on highlighting OLA career resources for students. OLBA and OPLA councils joined forces to provide “Power shifts and public libraries: elections, trustees and what it means for boards and staff”. Discussions were based around election prep needs of Boards, focusing on Election policies and legislation, and how the Strong Mayors Act will impact library boards.
