OLA Awards Procedure
Nomination Procedure
- All nomination forms can be found on the OLA website on the awards page.
- All awards accept nominations between February – November, with the exception of:
- Children’s or Youth Services Librarian of the Year Award (February – October)
- Advocacy in Action: Excellence in Children’s or Teen Services Award (February – October)
- OLA Building Awards (January – May)
- Nominator must provide sufficient documented evidence of the nominee’s contribution, potentially including but not limited to:
- Examples of how the candidate’s project meets the award criteria.
- Screenshots, screencasts, or documentation that provides evaluators with an understanding of the project (if required).
- Letters of support (if required).
- Quantitative and/or qualitative measures of the impact of the project/work (if required).
- Photo to be used for promotional materials (if required).
- Awards are not necessarily presented on an annual basis.
Award Selection Procedure
- OLA Staff will review all nominations for eligibility. They may follow up with nominators for additional information as necessary.
- The group responsible for selection will use the criteria outlined within the Award description to evaluate each award.
- Nominees who are not selected may be re-nominated in subsequent years with the submission of updated documentation.
- Once the winner has been selected, the successful nominator will be contacted by OLA.
- OLA will contact all unsuccessful nominators.
- A group or individual who has won an award may not be nominated for the same award for three years. *Building Awards are exempt from this criteria.
Award Presentation Information
- OLA will connect with the winner and nominator for award presentation logistics.
- Prior to the presentation of an award, a brief introductory speech will be given describing the winner.
- The recipient will be invited to give remarks at an award ceremony *details found in individual award details.
- Guests of award winners are welcome to attend award presentations, however, they must be registered event attendees or registered guests if the event is ticketed.
