Back-to-school season is just around the corner! With Ontario colleges and universities getting ready to welcome new and returning students, they’re busy hosting open houses, social activities and pop-ups. Last Wednesday, OLA joined in on the fun with Melissa, making her way to Thunder Bay to host an outreach event at both Confederation College and Lakehead University. These events are so important for us to hold, as they highlight the access to career resources, networking opportunities, and support that a membership with OLA provides community members.

Team OLA has been busy this summer, getting out of the office and into your libraries. Last week, Melissa set up a pop-up with cool bookish merch from The Library Marketplace at Thunder Bay Public Library. And tomorrow Lily and I are headed up to the staff development day at Markham Public Library. You can always connect with OLA staff about hosting an event at your school, library or place of work. We’d love to hear from you!

Planning continues for this year’s library month and for the many events of Ontario Public Library Week. Our calendar is filling up with opportunities to get out and celebrate libraries across the province. Dina and I will be heading out on another road trip this year – so let us know what you’re planning! This year’s Loud for Libraries campaign feels particularly important with municipal elections on the horizon. OPLW gives us a great excuse to celebrate public libraries loudly, invite people through the doors, and make sure decision-makers understand what libraries are doing in their communities every single day.

For those who don’t already know – Team OLA is bringing a Forest of Reading booth to the Ex next week.  I am extremely delighted that “going to the CNE” can officially be classified as work. We’ll be right next door to the TPL zone, talking about the importance of reading and all things Forest. If you’re at the Ex, come find us and say hello! I promise we will be very happy to see you. Possibly even happier if you arrive carrying Tiny Tom donuts.
