It’s always a little wild to hit this point in the calendar and realize how much has happened, and how much is underway. I’ve barely put up my 2026 calendar, but there’s already so much planned for the year ahead!
Speaking of gearing up, the OLA election is now open for all members to vote. Please take a moment to vote and help shape the leadership of the Association. Here is your link to the ballot — cast your vote, encourage a colleague, and do your part in strengthening OLA!
This week our board and councils have their final meetings of the year. They are reviewing their 2026 workplans and preparing to welcome incoming council members. It’s a big transition moment and a great opportunity to refine priorities and celebrate what has been accomplished. We also offered our heartfelt thanks to the many volunteers who are finishing their terms. Your time, energy, and ideas have shaped this organization in meaningful ways. Thank you for being part of OLA and for everything you have contributed.
On a more serious note, late last week we learned about concerning changes being considered to federal legislation related to the Canadian library shipping rate. This rate is essential to maintaining interlibrary loan services across the country. Even small changes could have significant consequences for access, equity, and the ability of libraries to share materials nationwide. Together with CULC and CELA, we have been moving quickly to coordinate letters, briefings, and advocacy messaging to ensure the federal government understands the impact of these proposed changes.
If interlibrary loan has ever made your life easier, helped your patrons, or opened access to materials your library couldn’t otherwise offer, now is the time to make your voice heard. Take action and find more info here.
More updates are coming soon as we close out the year.
See you next Tuesday!
