Michelle Arbuckle

Hello Library Land friends, and happy new year!

OLA staff are officially back in the office, and I am pleased to report that while many of us spent the holidays combating sniffles, we have emerged stronger, wiser, and allegedly immune to everything forever. That’s just science.

Over the break, we did the very glamorous work of clearing inboxes, closing browser tabs we were emotionally attached to, and mentally preparing for what can only be described as a sprint. Because yes, the OLA Super Conference is exactly three weeks away. Those of you procrastinating on your slide decks – take note!

Despite the cough drops and NyQuil, we are feeling fully revitalized and genuinely excited to be back at it. There is something about a fresh calendar year that makes colour-coded to-do lists feel powerful and optimistic.

This week also marked a big moment for OLA. We officially published the Inclusive Libraries Report, and we are incredibly proud of this work. It represents deep reflection, honest listening, and a real commitment to action. We hope you will take some time to read it and, most importantly, share your thoughts on the recommendations and next steps for OLA. This is work meant to live, grow, and be shaped by the community.

As we ease back into routines, I hope you are staying warm, well-fed, and properly caffeinated. May your inbox be manageable and your meetings short.

Wishing you a wonderful start to 2026!

See you next Tuesday!
