It continues to be a lively September here at OLA, so here’s your peek behind the curtain at what’s been happening:

Council Meetings
Six of seven of OLA’s councils met last week to kick off their fall work – with OLBA meeting this week. They reviewed updated terms of reference (we’re keeping governance strong and clear!), talked through this year’s election cycle and award nominations, and continued the always-fun work of choosing their Super Conference Spotlight Speakers. We’re excited about the names already being shared.

Member Town Halls – Save the Date!
Our OLA President will be hosting two virtual town halls – 12pm on October 1 and 7pm on Oct 2. These are open to all members and will be a great chance to hear updates on the OLA Strategic Plan and explore new ways to engage in the life of the Association. Bring your questions, your ideas, and maybe your favourite mug of coffee or tea — we’d love to see you there.

Super Conference Planning
The Super Conference planning team had their regular check-in last week. Emily and crew are in full planning mode — and yes, that includes sourcing ideas for the ever-popular “fibbons” (fun ribbons!) that attendees collect and trade during conference. I can confirm the brainstorm list is already wild and wonderful. The call for proposals is open for one more week – so get your ideas in now!

Staff Day at OLA
Finally, our OLA staff gathered in person last week for our quarterly staff day. It was a mix of learning and sharing: we trained together on OpenRefine (a tool for cleaning messy data — very satisfying), and shared updates across the operational side of OLA. These days are always a reminder of what a smart, collaborative team we have working on your behalf.

Hope your September is going well.

See you next Tuesday!
