It’s officially fall! Which means a few things – yes, I’m wearing a sweater. Yes, there is pumpkin spice cold brew in my mug. Yes, someone is gently reminding you that your Super Conference proposal is due very soon! Let me circle back on that.  

Last week we launched Season Eight of Library Land Loves! Our first episode back is all about how we talk about libraries during municipal elections. The conversations happening now can shape how future councils understand and support libraries, so give it a listen and share it widely please! Thanks to Dina Stevens for joining me on that episode.  

Melissa Macks and I also met with the team at MTCG to talk conference and how we can do more to celebrate the milestones, anniversaries, and great work happening in Ontario’s public libraries. There is so much worth celebrating across this province, and we left with lots of ideas about how we can help shine a brighter light on it.  

And another sure sign that summer is behind us: OLA’s councils are back in action! Most took a well-deserved break over the summer, and it was great to see meetings filling the calendar again last week. A huge thank you to all of the council volunteers who give their time and energy to OLA.  

Finally, Super Conference proposals close in TWO DAYS.  

Yes, that means you. The person who has an idea sitting in their notes app. The person who has been meaning to talk to that colleague about doing a session together.  

This is your sign.  

Some of the best OLA sessions come from something you tried, something you learned, a problem you solved, a question you’re still wrestling with, or a conversation you think our community needs to have. It doesn’t have to be perfect. It just has to start with an idea worth sharing.  

So open the notes app, text that colleague and get that proposal in!
