Essential Solo Skills (for Health and Hospital Librarians)

Virtual
Organized by OHLIA Council

In health or hospital environments, librarians sometimes find themselves a one-person role, without the immediate benefit of mentors or co-workers to lean on. This has made solo librarians particularly resilient within their organizations. From defending the library’s value, to troubleshooting technology, to curating the whole collection, solo librarians consistently demonstrate initiative, problem-solving, and creativity.

Come share with us your essential solo skills (skills you’d absolutely want to have if you worked alone, or skills you absolutely need to have) and your oddest library jobs. From the mundane to the super cool, this diverse skillset is precisely what makes us librarians indispensable. Don’t work solo? Don’t worry! Everyone is welcome to come share. Discussion will focus on health and hospital library skills but many skills are applicable to other domains of librarianship.
