OSLA School Library Joy Award
Description
This award is given to honour individuals who have had a significant impact on their school communities through their school library learning commons and/or their school community and/or the school library community at-large.
Eligibility
- Nominated candidates have a positive impact on either or both of:
- Students and/or staff through their role in promoting school library joy, and/or,
- The school library learning commons to engage the school community.
Criteria
- Nominations will be accepted between February – November
- The nominator may be an administrator or an educational colleague and need not be a member of OLA.
- The nominator must provide evidence to support the nomination, potentially including but not limited to:
- Endorsement by at least one school library professional;
- Creating a package of appropriate materials that shows the nominee’s accomplishments;
- Letters of support from colleagues, school library professionals, coordinators, students, and parents; and
- The nominee’s work history and significant positions in libraries and/or related experiences.
Selection Process
- The selection committee consists of at least 3 members of the OSLA Council.
- Eligible applications will be assessed according to the criteria as above, and any supporting documentation.
- The Council will consider all potential candidates, including those nominated from the membership.
- Nominees who are not selected may be re-nominated in subsequent years by submitting updated documentation.
- The presentation of this award is at the discretion of the OSLA Council. It is not necessarily presented on an annual basis.
Award Presentation Information
- This award is presented at the OLA Annual Super Conference.
- OSLA Award winners are published in the Teaching Librarian and may be promoted through other association publications.
