OCULA hosts a conference each year that bring together library staff from university and college libraries to discuss, collaborate, interrogate, and learn together.
Neurodiversity in the Library: Building Better for Staff and Students
Thursday, May 19, 2022, 11:00 a.m.-4:45 p.m. ET, Virtual Conference
This conference will explore how libraries can provide welcoming, accessible, and inclusive spaces and services for neurodivergent community members, as well as supportive work environments and professional development opportunities for library staff.
Program
Includes keynotes from:
Kay Sargent, Director of Workplace, HOK will speak to “The New Inclusivity: Designing a Neurodiverse Workplace” and will share how to create spaces that are more physically and culturally inclusive for people with a wide spectrum of neurological conditions.
Dr. Devon Price, author of “Unmasking Autism” will share his personal experience with masking to tell a story of neurodivergence that has thus far been dominated by those on the outside looking in. In embracing neurodiversity, we can all reap the rewards of nonconformity and learn to live authentically, Autistic and neurotypical people alike.
Panel presentations will include:
- Improving the Environment for Everyone: Actionable Ideas for Inclusivity & Accessibility
- Pass the Mic: What We Need to Know From Our Students about Neurodiversity
- Inside Out: Library Workers Who Identify as Neurodivergent on Improving the Staff Experience
