As Brantford Public Library followed the opening and closing guidelines of Ontario, the Programming and Partnerships department continued to offer virtual programming throughout the pandemic. Staff questioned and explored why they were continuing to offer programs virtually and experimented with new programming methods. Among many things, we wondered how to compete with content creators and whether we were reaching our community.

As we move towards full re-opening, we are once again considering what “post-pandemic” will look like for programming, staff, and our community. Staff are taking this opportunity to assess and refine our library’s purpose for programming to ensure that we continue to meet the needs of the community and complement library services.

Recognizing that there is no “return to normal”, we’re developing a programming framework to combine what we learned during the pandemic with what we expect to see post-pandemic. We will continue to hone our virtual programming methods to enhance in-person programming and reconnect with our community.

Attendees will:
· Explore the purposes of library programming
· Learn how “post-pandemic” realities might impact library programming
· Learn how pandemic programming methods can be integrated into “normal” programming models

About the Presenter:

Zile Ozols is a reader, thinker, creator, and the Manager of Programming and Partnerships at the Brantford Public Library. A desire to be a part of and in service of community gets her out of bed each morning. She falls asleep thinking about how she and libraries can do better for and with communities.
